Austin, Texas, August 12, 2009 – Katie Osborne, owner of Full Moon Design Group, Inc., has been appointed as one of the newest members to serve a two-year term on the Catalyst 8 Leadership Council.“Katie was selected because of her accomplishments and talents. I know she has already made an impact with Catalyst 8 and we are excited to see Katie and the rest of the Leadership Council take the organization to the next level,” Edward Moody, Chairman of Catalyst 8.

Katie and the rest of the council will have the responsibility of developing innovative ideas that bring awareness of the Long Center’s arts to the Austin community. In addition the council will plan social opportunities for businesses and individuals to share their enthusiasm for the arts. Katie will be introduced as one of the newest members of the Catalyst 8 Leadership Council at BASH09, the organization’s annual fundraiser.

“Since my involvement with Catalyst 8 in 2007, I have witnessed a growth in the organization’s membership, community involvement, and funds that we are able to offer to the Boost program. I am truly excited to be a part of this talented group and even more excited to see what we can do to make the arts accessible to Austin,” says Katie of her new role with the council.

Catalyst 8 raises funds to fuel Austin’s Long Center Boost program. Boost awards rental subsidies to Austin area emergent and underserved arts groups. Since inception, there has been more than $40,000 in rental subsidies awarded to these diverse arts groups so that there is a wider diversity of performances and audiences to experience the world class stages of the Long Center.

The mission of Catalyst 8 is committed to ‘making it happen’ by spreading awareness about the Long Center and the arts, providing opportunities for social access and involvement, and developing future leaders in the community.

The Austin unemployment rate has continued to decline.  The overall unemployment rate for the Austin area was 6.2% in April 2009 and has lowered to 5.8% over the past month. The Austin unemployment rate remains lower than both Texas and national unemployment rates, which is a comforting indicator of strength for the Austin economy.

The Smile Never Fades: Caring and Sharing is compiled of portraits of breast cancer survivors, their friends and family and other supporters, as well as intimate essays written by the survivors themselves.  All of the proceeds from the book, which is officially being release on Wednesday, October 8th, will go to the Breast Cancer Resource Center of Austin.
